This photo was taken at the Belmont Greek Festival, an annual event in my local community. When I was covering this event, I wanted to convey the pride in Greek culture that the festival embodies. When shooting the play in this photo, I moved around the stands so I was able to establish the setting of the audience in both the foreground and background while still framing the actor so he could be made out to be the subject.

Caption: Actor Chris Charonis entertains the audience in a Greek mythology play produced by youth members of the Holy Cross Church titled “Echoes of Gold.” This play follows the journey of greedy King Midas, who wishes for everything he touches to turn to gold, accidentally turning his daughter into gold, emphasizing the importance of family and friends over earthly possessions. “I love performing for my church in the festival and entertaining the people going,” said Jared So’oto, the actor for King Midas.
The Scotsland fair is an annual event at Carlmont that wraps up the year and showcases the numerous clubs and fun activities. One of the fun activities this year at the event was when students could pie and throw water balloons at some senior students. Watching this from the side of the action, I quickly brought out my camera, catching the droplets of the water balloons hitting the seniors.

Caption: Seniors Aedan Ryan, Dylan Cummings, and Miraj Bhalala playfully try to avoid the water balloons Carlmont students throw at them. Hosted by the Carlmont Drum Circle Club, students could pay to pie and throw water balloons at Ryan, Cummings, and Bhalala.
This photo was taken when I was shooting photos covering the Dia de los Muertos celebration within the local area. This story was the hardest for me to get pictures of, as it was extremely crowded in the area. I often had to get creative in getting the shots, such as seeking higher vantage points of the performances; however, my effort would eventually pay off, and I got this shot of these dancers near the end of the event.

Caption: Dancers dressed in huipil garments and long skirts dance back to back with each other. Huipils are a traditional garment worn commonly by indigenous women in parts of Central America. Huipils today have become a sign of the wearer’s community and ethnicity, as each culture has its way of making and decorating the garment.
This photo was taken at a performance by the martial arts club at Carlmont. During the martial arts showcase, many students love coming to the area to be entertained by the skills being demonstrated in the performance. I love how the camera captured the specks of wood flying so clearly in this picture, giving a nice, clear, and cool-looking shot.

Caption: Senior Raymond Cao displays his skills by breaking a stack of three wooden boards in one swift movement. Throughout the martial arts performance, Cao performed many other displays, such as showcasing his ability to maneuver with weapons.
I took this photo when I was assigned to photograph the senior night of the boys varsity game. I used a fast shutter speed, ensuring I captured the details of the water splashing and portrayed the passion and fight these senior players had in their last game at Carlmont.

Caption: Senior Nathan Chan passes the ball, barely avoiding the defender pressuring him. The Scots brought the ball near the goal through their passes. The Scots scored more points in the second half due to their better-coordinated attacks.
