Wildcats sack Scots’ undefeated league streak

Footballs-4.jpg

As my first published article for my school press, I reported on one of Carlmont's JV football games near the end of their season. This game was especially important as it marked an end to the Carlmont's wining streak in the season and served as a defining point for me as I was able to gain experience in getting information from my sources and creating my stories.

Tigers claw back to beat Scots in first season scrimmage

As winter sports rolled around, many teams started having season scrimmages at the time. Among these teams was the girl's varsity basketball team at Carlmont. This article may be my best sports article as it was my first time to put an animated data chart that simulated the scores throughout the game and I experimented with using a story telling lede. This article won me second place for the 2024 California Press Women High School Communications Contest in the sports category.

For my last sports article of 2023, I decided to report on the Carlmont JV girls soccer team as JV teams in general tend to be overlooked by students in the school. This game was especially fun to watch and report on as the team kept scoring and maintaining a big lead against the Notre Dame team.

Swingin’ through the ages

For my feature article of Sophomore year, I decided to pursue something I was very familiar about, that being music, specifically in the jazz genre. In this article, I went into a deep dive about the historical background of jazz, the problems youth jazz musicians may face today, and what the future holds for jazz musicians. In this article, I had the honor of interviewing many well renowned jazz musicians and jazz educators such as Cory Combs, the director of the Stanford Jazz program, and Paul Contos, the conductor for SF Jazz's highschool all state band.
